During the Summer months I would be up for hosting a "Camping Trial Run" on one of the Islands in the Canadian Great Lakes. Rent a few canoes and see how much gear each of us could realistically carry with us, learn the joys of paddling for hours, setting up camp with limited materials, and test any equipment that might help us (water distillation, electricity generation, portable solar panels, ect.)
This would also be a beer summit/discussion for future events

I'd love to join in on the fun but it's a little too far away. perhaps us bongs can organise something.

I desire a new land where we are free from the impending doom of the west. This could be it.

That sound like a good idea to get things happening. Although I think we would need to do one on each side of the pond.

Why don't we all convene somewhere the climate is likely to be similar to our likely island(s), like, I dunno, Hawaii? We could also take a boat to one of the less inhabited islands to see how everyone's sea legs go. It also makes the season largely irrelevant.

For me, it's much cheaper for my to drive down to one of the Great Lakes then fly to Hawaii And I'm assuming it easier and cheaper to have a few people drive to the lakes for a trial run I'm not against the idea of doing a proper trial run in a tropical zone. I just think it's a bit early to commit to flying somewhere just to do a camping adventure

You wont be able to sleep after the sun rises as your tent will turn into a furnace. Also, food under this conditons spoils really, really fast.

This is why I'd like to do some initial trial runs in North America during the North American Summer, for North Americans. You get a true blue experience doing it in Hawaii or Caribbean, but I'd like to get some pre-tropical camping experience with some fellow North Americans in a more familiar environment. That way, at least we know we have people that can work together, make camp properly, cook & store food, and produce fresh drinking water properly without being trapped in Hawaii for 1-2 weeks or however long

I generally get along well with everyone, but worst case scenario you guys don't like me I can always steam my boat back to Aus
