I propose colonizing Eli Malk island, an uninhabited island part of the Palau island chain of Micronesia. Eli Malk is a densely wooded island located in the middle of a reef. The climate is tropical, with temperatures ranging from 24*C to 34*C annually. Eli Malk is not currently under any environmental protections other then a commercials tuna, shark, and whale ban. There are currently no permanent settlements on this island. Positives: +uninhabited +withing a 1 day boat, canoe ride, or couple hour heli ride to international airport, hospital, US embassy, supply store +lots of natural trees for building +fertile soil +fair amount of rain, can be collected for fresh drinking water +lots of reef, good for fishing +reef surrounds the island, will protect from storm surge or tsunami +can visit the island under the guise of tourists. Can start settlement preparations without committing to live there full time Negatives: -Under the current jurisdiction of Palau. Would have to adhere to any rules or conditions applied to us until we get enough bartering power to do otherwise -Would have to maintain strong environmental protection standards as not to piss off locals or international community -Would have to convince the locals we're not going to fuck shit up. Strong diplomacy is a must -In the path of a typhoon and thunderstorm route (is a good thing for fresh water collection) -Close enough to populated centers that locals and tourists would occasionally pass by (good for trading, source of income) Eil Malk en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eil_MalkPalau en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PalauMap Coords www.google.com/maps/place/7%C2%B009'15.0%22N+134%C2%B021'45.0%22E/@7.1525221,134.3601284,3877m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 Attachments:

It makes trading easy and rescue easy, in case shit hits the fan. As long as we stay low key and don't step on toes we'd have no problem with China or Australia. If they havent come for Palau, they won't come for us.

As long as you're not drug running, committing acts of terror, or running a terror cell, they won't even bat an eye at you. The Seabees are there to help rebuild in the case of emergency.

That could be solid grounds to have a state sponsored eviction

Protection from the US isn't a bad thing either. As long as you're not drug running, committing acts of terror, or running a terror cell, they won't even bat an eye at you. The Seabees are there to help rebuild in the case of emergency. The purpose of a military is to defend the sovereignty of a nation. If we go claiming land in the middle of thier archipelago, that is a direct attack and we are in a vulnerable position.

Caroline Island? We will die there, it's no place to harvest anything, most of that island is water and it's not drinkable one.

What's wrong with the soil? There are barely any others with freshwater. Are we talking about the Caroline Atoll here, or is it just Caroline Island? That's my main reason against Caroline. If you don't want to import ever single eatable item to the island, we may look for another one.
